Originally developed to allow add-on boards to be connected to the 6847 socket on Dragon and Coco computers where space was precluding a good fit with additional board heights etc.
This extension could be used for other IC socket extension purposes. There are no specific modifications given to any pins on the cable – i.e. no increased ground paths etc. The only restriction might be for fast clocking ICs which might pick up additional interference across the extension.
The extension consists of a custom PCB providing the extension IC socket, with a fully assembled IDC cable connector plugging into the original IC socket. The IDC cable length used is 14cm. It is usually folded at 90 degrees either way for fitting.
The extension plug will only fit into dual wipe style IC socket – i.e. NOT turned/machined pin socket.
